There's nothing quite like a classic vanilla cupcake, and I'm excited to share my recipe for "Classic Vanilla Cupcakes with Silky Buttercream Frosting."
Ingredients
For the Vanilla Cupcakes:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup whole milk
For the Silky Buttercream Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Vanilla Cupcake Batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
Step 2: Bake the Cupcakes
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow the cupcakes to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Make the Silky Buttercream Frosting
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating on low speed until combined.
- Add the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat on high speed until the frosting is light, fluffy, and silky smooth.
- Adjust the consistency with more cream if needed, or more powdered sugar for a thicker frosting.
Step 4: Assemble the Cupcakes
- Once the cupcakes are completely cooled, spread or pipe the silky buttercream frosting on top using a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Add optional toppings like sprinkles, fresh berries, or edible flowers for an elegant finish.
